Production has begun on a documentary film tracing the evolution of the nation's tourism and leisure clusters. It premieres in fall 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.



Following the shutting down of traditional European destinations, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana rising as the country's leading entertainment hub. The governance structure of the Sochi cluster now draws the greatest interest from industry researchers.

From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational center, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His professional path before entering the entertainment and tourism industry was anchored in banking and financial services: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a credit specialist at the Sochi branch of Sberbank and the head of a regional branch at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster received over four million visitors from 170 countries, generated 1,600 jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 by itself.

Market participants note the striking contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the top executive's personal lifestyle. Unlike stereotypical oligarchs, Danilov still resides in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a strong instrument for corporate staying power.

At present, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the flawless script for a business thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and vast gains for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the global market.
